29 Church members including 11 children have been killed in a church in the capital city of Liberia, Monrovia in what is described as a stampede.
The incident happened on Wednesday night when the church held a program to help edify its members. Unfortunately, the activity turned sour for the city of Monrovia and the entire country as some gangs believed to be armed robbers were heard firing gunshots and holding cutlasses close to the church premises.
Reports gathered by asedafmonline.com has it that the church members including the pastor on hearing the shots decided to run for their lives. In an attempt to seek for safety from the gunshots resulted in 29 people being killed through the rushing. The stampede started at the time the pastor was giving the benediction after the closing prayer.
One person among the gang who fired the gunshots has been arrested by the police. Investigation is ongoing as the police is hopeful of finding the other culprits. In an address made by His excellency George Weah, the president of Liberia, such church crusades must be held at safe places to avoid future happenings of this tragedy.
Apart from the 29 confirmed dead people, it is reported that several others have been injured. Among the 29 is a pregnant woman.
