Less than a month after Christmas, Apiate community in the western region has been put to silence by a truck carrying explosives to a nearby mining community. According to reports gathered by asedafmonline.com, the explosives were intended to be transported for work in the area but unfortunately the truck collided with a motorcycle.
The driver of the truck alighted immediately after the collision and saw fire in the vehicle. Sensing danger, he started shouting, telling people to run away for their lives. Within the same period, a blast was heard, killing scores of people at the spot, destroying buildings and causing big cracks on the road.
According to reports, dead bodies were found torn in pieces on the road, vehicles were literally torn apart, with several others injured. The police, NADMO, Fire Service and other security agencies rushed to the community which is situated between Bogoso and Bawdie, in the western region.
It is believed that the truck carrying the chemical explosives was coming from Tarkwa, a popular mining town and heading towards Chirano, a mining site. This situation has rendered many homeless while several others have been trapped in collapsed buildings at the accident scene.
In another development, the main road to Tarkwa, the town where the truck was coming from has been blocked, leaving many stranded. Reports has it that dozens of people are feared dead while several others are missing. The police in a statement has urged all survivors and neighbouring towns and villages to keep calm and keep away from the accident area where lives and properties have been destroyed by the chemical explosives.
